Celestial” is a Hong Kong based collective whose unique sound resonates with the diversity of life in this city. They have been hailed as “the Asian answer to Europe’s Massive Attack” by the independent music website Evolution of Music (www..eomentertainment.com) and since 1996 have produced a series of four highly innovative albums.Celestial was conceived by producer and guitarist Peter Millward, a co-founder of Drum Music, Hong Kong's number one music production house.

Peter moved to Hong Kong in 1990 from South London coming from a background playing in punk bands and recording reggae acts. Upon arrival he was asked to write music for a leading fashion boutique for their compilation album. His unique fusion of Asian sounds with modern production techniques pioneered the emerging genre of “Asian chill-out” music - and the idea for “Celestial” was born.

Inspired by the likes of the postal service, the analog girl and many othersand a common love for 70s-80s hong kong movies by the hui brothers, KenHayashida and Jonathan Fong adopted the name of the Karl Maka, in tribute to the legendary actor with bald head in the 'aces goes places' series. The Karl Maka are keeping their fingers crossed that the REAL mr. Karl Maka does not sue their asses off for whatever legal reasons. in which case they may
be forced to adopt the name "the Teddy Robbins".
